Artistic Resilience: Jewelry as Symbols of Inner Growth

At the end of 2022 I was jobless, lost and broken hearted. The world felt like a terrifying labyrinth, and for a long time I struggled to find my way out of it. For the first time in my life design became more than a passion, it was a matter of survival. I designed to understand myself and the world, to be able to bear it, to infuse it with meaning and hope. By drawing each piece of this collection I could breathe again; through them, I could see better days ahead. Dear reader, know that things of beauty can help us in the most mysterious, unlikely ways imaginable and I hope that this collection will be like a beacon of light, illuminating this fundamental truth about art.

For many years now I’ve called Spain my home. Being away from family and friends, I was alone, unsure and frightened, the comforts of home out of reach. I experienced those feelings while living in the land of Velázquez, Gaudí and Picasso, surrounded by one of the greatest artistic legacies of the Western world. Witnessing so many centuries of artistic endeavor, being inspired by it at the same time I was experiencing a morass of inner conflicts, made me look within, to examine what’s in my heart and find a way to express those powerful emotions suffocating me from the inside.

That’s how the collection Emotions came to be: The moment of light shining on a dark corner. Art helping overcome misery. The first part of the collection is made of 4 rings and 2 necklaces.

Toughness Beneath: Cracks in the Armor Set — For those who have trouble understanding and fitting in this world, look to this ring for comfort. Modern society pressures us to present ourselves as strong and in control, we’re encouraged to show a tough persona. The truth is everyone is struggling in their own way and trying to find their place in the world. Trying to maintain this image of strength and control can be exhausting and draining. In reality, this façade is often a way to hide a fragile or broken heart.

Reminder: Do not pretend to have a heart of stone, as the pressure to be strong and tough can actually make us weaker and more fragile in the long run. Instead, focus on your true feelings and your authenticity.

Liberation Lull: Breath Duo — The feeling of a heavy heart is a warning sign we may be forcing ourselves into situations or relationships that aren’t healthy to us. Look to this ring to remember to breathe and take a step back. Sometimes, our first instinct is to give more, even when it’s not in our best interest. This can make us feel trapped and constricted. It’s okay to let go of things that are weighing us down and focus on things that bring us joy and fulfillment.

Reminder: To be honest with ourselves and understand our true needs. Taking deep breaths help to loosen the ‘knots’.

Seamless Strength: Healing Stitch Ring — The beginning of our healing journey is often the hardest part because our wounds are still open and painful. The process is not easy and it can be difficult to confront our pain and trauma, but by taking action and moving forward, we begin to see there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Look to this ring to feel assured healing and overcoming pain is possible.

Reminder: Be kind and patient with open wounds, healing is a process and it starts with taking small, active steps towards acceptance and closure. You can do it!

There is something truly remarkable about the way feelings shape us as human beings. They have the power to inspire and to transform us. Yet, in today’s world, it’s all too common for us to ignore or suppress our feelings. Embracing both the logical and emotional sides of our psyche can be a way of living a fulfilling life. Being genuine can be scary — the desire to fit in can lead to a compromise of our values. But once we accept ourselves, we create the space for real connections that are deep and meaningful. We become better versions of ourselves — not just for us, but for the people of our lives whom we care and love.
